Moving to the Sunshine Coast

Having lived in South Australia all my life, I never thought I would move interstate. Growing up in the Barossa valley gave me a great grounding and love of wine! I moved around in my early 20’s one side of the city to the other, finding my home next to the beach west of Adelaide, it was here I found my love for being close to the ocean.

I had family living on the Sunshine Coast, and visited them for a short holiday, in only 4 days I absolutely fell in love with the beaches and the lifestyle. Coming back to Adelaide I felt sad, which I had never felt before, this led me to the big decision to move!

Having family on the coast I had heard finding work up here would be difficult, so I started applying for jobs before leaving SA. I had multiple skype interviews and I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to start my new job a week after moving. Very thankful for technology and being able to interview while in a different state I packed my house up and drove from Adelaide to Mount Coolum!

Before moving I had also secured a house to rent which made the move very easy, organising as much as possible before I left SA made it stressfree, it was just an exciting feeling to arrive on the Sunshine Coast and know that this is where I live now and to start doing just that, living.

Things that i did to make the move easy:

  • Organise as much as possible before moving, start the ball rolling by looking at houses, research what area you would like to live in, what suits your lifestyle and job needs;
  • Join all of the local facebook groups to start getting a feel for the place
  • contact as many labour hire agencies as possible, set up skype interviews prior to leaving
  • Join networking groups, meet as many people as possible, get your name out there! The sunny coast is a big country town, its not what you know, but who you know
  • Once you get to your new destination drive around, find where the CBD’s are – where is thriving, what area would you like to work in
  • Enjoy the move, don’t stress – try to enjoy the journey!
