INTEREST: Use a job title that would interest to your ideal candidate
DESIRE: Build desire in the first sentence of your ad
ENERGY: Use words that cultivate energy and excitement
ACTION: Explain how to apply for the job
Check out this article for further details on the IDEA principle when writing you job ad. Following is a checklist to keep in mind for each element of your job ad.
☐ Include an industry standard job title that would appeal to the ideal candidate.
- Avoid jargon and quirky job titles
- Always lead with a specific job title
- Keep it simple and to the point
- Don’t be afraid to use the word ‘Job’ in your title
- Example Job Title: Registered Nurse Job
☐ Include the top three selling points or highlights of the role
- What are the benefits of the role?
- What can the candidate expect?
- What’s a highlight of working for your company?
☐ Provide specific information about your company
- Include an outline of your company culture
☐ Provide details on the role
- Keep the information concise
- List specific tasks
- Include the skills and experience required
- Include the suburb or area the role will be located or if it is remote work
☐ Provide salary information
- Candidates prefer to know the salary
- Job ads that display salary information generally receive more applications
- Don’t be afraid to use a salary range based on qualifications
☐ Include a list of benefits
- What’s it in for the candidate?
- Example:
- Flexible work hours
- Attractive bonus scheme
- Inclusive, team-oriented culture
